Honoring Trans Latin@s through research advocacy during Trans Awareness Week

November 13-19 is Transgender Awareness Week. Trans Latin@s are a fundamental part of our community and with so many LGBTQ folks under attack, this is a particularly important week where we take action to open space for Trans stories and advocate for survivors of domestic violence. The stakes couldn’t be higher – 2021 showed unprecedented violence in the Trans community, with at least 45 people killed, most of whom were Black or Latin@.

Research is foundational to our work preventing violence in the Latin@ community, including with Trans Latin@ survivors. Get involved with our research team and connect with professionals who have expertise in gender-based violence in the Trans Latin@ community. This charla will provide space for you to explore your research interests in a topical area, such as culturally-specific communities or LGBTQ-centered research. Our guest speaker, Dr. Guadalupe-Diaz serves on the Editorial Board of the SAGE journal Violence Against Women and is a Crime and Research Justice Alliance expert on violence in intimate relationships. In this charla, we will also hold space to honor Trans people lost from violence in the days leading up to Transgender Day of Remembrance.

If you feel a pull and believe that violence towards Trans people needs to stop, take action by getting involved in research and activism. We invite you to register for this research charla which takes place Tuesday, November 15 at 1 p.m. ET.
