Last week, Esperanza United proudly hosted our 2024 Latino boys camp, LatinXplorers. This enriching experience welcomed nine Latino youth, ages 11 to 17, to a free three-day retreat at the Osprey Wilds Environmental Learning Center in Sandstone, MN.
At LatinXplorers camp, the boys participated in a variety of team-building activities and educational sessions designed to foster respect, empathy, communication, and a deep appreciation for Minnesota’s environment and wildlife. Exciting camp adventures included archery, a nature scavenger hunt, and a 20-foot high ropes course culminating in a thrilling zip-line ride.
In addition to outdoor activities, the campers had kitchen duties, assisting with preparing the meals, serving them, and cleaning after. They also learned valuable lessons about composting and zero waste, significantly reducing our environmental footprint. Their dedication earned them a spot in the Osprey Wilds “Ort Hall of Fame.”
LatinXplorers camp was an incredible journey filled with adventure, learning, and fun in a safe and nurturing environment. The Prevention and Social Change Team at Esperanza United is immensely grateful for this experience and eagerly anticipates next year’s camp.
