Meet the team: Beverly Martinez

Meet Beverly Martinez, Youth Advocate

Where are you from?

I was born in Puebla, Mx and have been in Minnesota since the age of 3.

Where do you feel most at home?

I feel most at home anywhere when I’m surrounded by my family.

What inspires you, professionally and personally?

I’m inspired daily by the resilient youth and women that get up and show up everyday despite their circumstances.

What are your areas of expertise or what areas are particularly interesting to you?

I’ve been committed to social development and working with youth to aid them in becoming aware of what healthy relationships look like while raising awareness for mental health.

Share one thing you have learned, big or small, doing your work over the past year?

I’ve learned that sometimes you don’t get to see the impact that you have on people. However, a small seed is planted and it slowly gets watered by others. Then they become their own creators of their future with the tools they obtain.

Who inspires you?

My sister Kimberly.

What do you do to relax, de-stress or recharge your batteries?

I practice yoga to help de-stress but sometimes just blasting a song and taking a dance break does wonders for the soul.

Why have you chosen to do this kind of work?

I’ve always gravitated to working with youth, there’s so much they’re learning and discovering about themselves so being able to support them during this process is amazing. It’s rewarding when you reconnect and see their growth.

What is your favorite food?

I love sushi, I could eat it everyday!

What is your favorite book?

I love The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz and What you think of me is none of my business by Terry Cole-Whittaker, which I read this book once a year since it covers all aspects of life and self development.
