Meet the team: Damary Rodriguez

Meet Damary Rodriguez, Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator

Where are you from?

I’m originally from New York (Brooklyn) but live in Pennsylvania now.

Where do you feel most at home?

By the water whether it’s a beach, lake, pool, or river!

What inspires you, professionally and personally?

Helping survivors heal and move beyond the trauma they experience.

What are your areas of expertise or what areas are particularly interesting to you?

Language access and how it intersects with race, racial justice, transformative and restorative justice

Share one thing you have learned, big or small, doing your work over the past year?

Having an organized space really helps me do my work. If my space is a mess, it makes it hard to focus.

Who inspires you?

Kimberlé Crenshaw, Gloria Lucas from Nalgona Positivity Pride, Zahira Kelly

What do you do to relax, de-stress or recharge your batteries? I love going for walks.

Why have you chosen to do this kind of work?  One of my friends, many years ago, was in an abusive relationship and I wanted to figure out how to help her.

What is your favorite food?

This is hard because I love so many foods but lately it’s Colombian food. Also, rice and beans with a fried egg is definitely in my top 5.

What is your favorite book?

I love to read so it’s hard to pick one. Beyond Survival is one of the ones I’ve enjoyed reading this year.
