Research and policy roundtable

Gathering researchers and policy makers always makes for lively and inspirational discussion and it was no different for Esperanza United (formerly Casa de Esperanza: National Latin@ Network) and our roundtable event earlier this year. Eighteen dedicated experts, eight researchers and ten policymakers all from our Advisory Councils, gathered virtually to share ideas on best serving Latin@ survivors of domestic and sexual violence, particularly during a global pandemic. 

Together we  discussed the need to prevent media misinformation in the Latin@ communities, address multisystem oppression and barriers for Latin@ and immigrant survivors of gender-based violence, and share how work in the field needs to be adjusted to meet the gaps of services left by Covid-19.   We also brainstormed on cross collaborations, funding support for culturally specific programs, and using strength-based approaches to work with survivors.
