There are stories that stay with us.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>

Some are loud \u2013 making headlines, forcing the world to pay attention. Others\u00a0remain\u00a0quiet, unfolding behind closed doors, in homes\u00a0that from the outside\u00a0look just like any other.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

And sometimes, the hardest truth to sit with is this:<\/span>\u00a0
violence is not rare. It is not distant. It is not \u201csomeone else\u2019s story.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

It\u00a0is happening \u2013\u00a0every day.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This year, as we mark\u00a0Denim Day<\/a>\u00a0on April 29, during\u00a0Sexual Assault Awareness Month<\/a>, we carry more than awareness.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We carry\u00a0memory.<\/span>\u00a0
We carry responsibility.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Denim Day began as a response to injustice.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>

After a court overturned a sexual assault conviction based on what a survivor was wearing, people around the world took a stand. Denim became a symbol \u2013 a visible way to challenge harmful myths and say clearly:<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

What someone wears is never consent.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>

Today, Denim Day continues as a global movement. A reminder that victim-blaming still exists, and that changing narratives requires all of us.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

At\u00a0Esperanza United, we know that awareness alone is not enough.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

One in three women in the U.S. experience physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>

That number is not just data.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

It represents people in our communities.<\/span>\u00a0
People navigating barriers shaped by stigma, language, and access to culturally responsive support.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

That is why our work goes beyond responding to harm.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

We work to prevent it.<\/span>\u00a0
We listen to survivors.<\/span>\u00a0
We build systems rooted in trust, dignity, and community.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Because prevention is not a single action.<\/span>\u00a0
It is a collective commitment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

So what does Denim Day ask of us?<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>

It asks us to\u00a0<\/span>pay attention.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

To question what we\u2019ve been taught about sexual violence.<\/span>\u00a0
To reject narratives that blame survivors.<\/span>\u00a0
To believe people when they share their experiences.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

It asks us to recognize that silence allows harm to continue \u2013 and that each of us has a role in changing that.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

And most importantly \u2013 it asks us to act.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>

Not just in moments of awareness.<\/span>\u00a0
But in everyday choices.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

In\u00a0conversations\u00a0with friends.<\/span>\u00a0
In how we support our communities.<\/span>\u00a0
In the way we show up for one another.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

This April 29, wear denim.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>

But more importantly \u2013 carry what it represents.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Start\u00a0<\/span>a conversation<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0
Share resources<\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0
Stand with survivors.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Because change does not begin in a single moment.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

It begins with all of us \u2013 choosing to speak, to listen, and to act.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>
