Meet Angelina Cotler, Bilingual Communications Manager

Where are you from?  

I was born in Lima, Peru. 

Where do you feel most at home?

 Any city that has an ocean view

What inspires you, professionally and personally?

 Professionally, I am inspired to contribute in some way to understanding the reality of Latin American countries and the situation of Latin@s in the United States. I am inspired by people who show solidarity, respect diversity, and contribute to eliminating economic disparities and social, racial and gender discrimination.

What are your areas of expertise or what areas are particularly interesting to you?  

Social and economic anthropology, studies on Latin America, the Caribbean and its relationship with the Latino@s in the United States and languages. Besides Spanish, the first language I studied was French in school, then English, and several years of Turkish. I understand Italian and Portuguese.

Share one thing you have learned, big or small, doing your work over the past year? 

Be more patient, see situations in perspective, be more empathetic with people, and value even more, the relationships we have with friends and family.

Who inspires you? 

Anyone who respects and embrace socio-cultural diversity, who works to eliminate economic disparities, racial injustice and gender discrimination.

What do you do to relax, de-stress or recharge your batteries? 

I exercise every day and also love to cook.

Why have you chosen to do this kind of work?  

To contribute to eradicating gender violence of any kind and empower Latina women.

What is your favorite food? 

Any dish from a Mediterranean cuisine but especially Turkish dishes and lots of vegetables, seafood, lamb, chickpeas and eggplants.

What is your favorite book? 

Have many…. But two especially are The man who loved dogs from the Cuban writer Leonardo Padura and from Almudena Grandes Lucia y la Alegria
