Engaging with #Cyberfeminism: A Critical Resource Guide

By Alexa De La Fuente

Are you an emerging researcher? A teacher? An activist? Someone who wants to be part of ending gender-based violence (GBV)? Media is an important part of the normalization of such violence because it influences ideas, beliefs, and perceptions that enables harm. Yet as the audience, we can counter, resist, and negotiate these communications.

Cyberspace, for instance, has emerged as a significant site for people like cyberfeminists to navigate and work against ideologies that create and maintain GBV. Cyberfeminists have created a horizontal plane of discussion, expression, and mobilization, especially the feminists in Latin America who use social media to transmit their actions and demonstrations across borders. Following the values of transnational solidarity and multidirectional engagement, this guide is meant to begin critical conversations with cyberfeminists working against GBV.
