What is happening

In recent weeks, millions of people have become newly aware of what families in our Latin@ communities live with every day.

For survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, trafficking and dating violence, safety has never been simple.  Right now, it is even more complicated. People are deciding:

  • Can I safely go to work, to medical appointments, or for my kids to go to school? 
  • Is my family better off seeking safety, or in our unsafe home?
  • Will seeking help draw unwanted attention? 

 These are not theoretical questions.  They are daily realities. 

Why flexible cash matters

Flexible cash allows Esperanza United to address participant crises in ways that other resources cannot. Cash supports: 

  • Prevent eviction by paying rent directly to landlords 
  • Basic needs of multigenerational households with disrupted incomes 
  • Respond immediately as conditions shift for families  

What we do, every day

Esperanza United has served our community for more than 40 years. We meet people where they are, especially in moments like this. This approach gives survivors choice, centering dignity and prioritizing safety. Right now, we are: 

  • Prioritizing direct cash assistance for participants 
  • Amplifying vetted community partners providing food and essential supplies 
  • Adapting services to reduce risk and protect families 

This is not a short-term response for Esperanza United.  This is our work every single day.
