More good days, together: healing in community

There are days that feel heavier than others–days when getting out of bed takes more strength than anyone can see.

For many survivors of domestic and sexual violence, those days are not rare. They are part of a reality shaped by fear, uncertainty, and the long journey toward healing.

And yet, healing is possible.

This May, during Mental Health Awareness Month, we are reminded that mental health is not separate from our experiences. It is deeply connected to our sense of safety, our relationships, and the communities we are part of.

For survivors, mental health can be impacted in ways that are often invisible. Anxiety, depression, and trauma can shape everyday life. But so can something else: support.

At Esperanza United, we have seen what happens when survivors are met with understanding, cultural connection, and care–when someone is listened to without judgment and reminded that their voice matters. That is where healing begins.

Healing does not happen in isolation; it happens in community.

Community can take many forms. It can be a conversation, a trusted advocate, or a space where someone feels safe enough to speak for the first time. Sometimes, it begins with a simple but powerful step: reaching out.

We know that asking for help is not easy. It can feel overwhelming, and at times, even impossible. But no one should have to navigate this alone.

This year’s theme, More Good Days, Together, invites all of us to reflect on what healing can look like when we show up for one another. When we listen with intention, create spaces where people feel seen and supported, and recognize the strength that already exists within our communities, we begin to make healing possible.

Every story shared helps break stigma. Every connection built creates possibility. Every moment of support can lead to a new beginning.

At Esperanza United, we believe in a future where our communities are not only safe but thriving, where survivors are not defined by what they have experienced, but by their strength, resilience, and dreams.

This month, we invite you to be part of that vision by showing up for one another, offering support, and helping create more good days, together.
