Meet Pamela Mercado Michelli, Project Coordinator 

Where are you from? 

I am originally from Isabela, Puerto Rico and have been living in Minnesota for the last 6 years.

Where do you feel most at home? 

I feel most at home when I am with my daughter wherever that is but, specifically back home in Puerto Rico. 

What inspires you, professionally and personally?

What inspires me is seeing women of color being in decision making spaces, and empowering other women and underserved communities. 

What are your areas of expertise or what areas are particularly interesting to you?

I have been working in the victim services field for over 5 years specifically with domestic violence and sexual assault. I also have experience with community engagement and outreach. I am currently pursuing my PhD in Social work and Social Policy Administration. 

Share one thing you have learned, big or small, doing your work over the past year?

I have learned  more the importance of self care especially in the type of work that I have done and even more during a pandemic. 

Who inspires you? 

My grandmother, mother and sister inspire me. 

What do you do to relax, de-stress or recharge your batteries?

I enjoy working out and traveling. 

Why have you chosen to do this kind of work?  

It is very heartwarming  to see individuals who have experienced traumatic experiences overcome and gain control of their lives again and heal.

Mofongo and French fries
