Meet the team: Pedro Reyna

Meet Pedro A. Reyna, Training and Technical Assistance Coordinator

Where are you from?

Brownsville, TX

Where do you feel most at home?

I am never more at home than when I can sit and hug those close to me and my dogs.

What inspires you, professionally and personally?

I would say the women in my life are my daily inspiration. From my mother, to  my abuela and tias of which I consider like second moms. Their love and support are everything to me.

What are your areas of expertise or what areas are particularly interesting to you?

My background has led me to facilitate discussions on gender based violence prevention within my community, then state, and now nationally. I am particularly interested in the areas of partnership management and data analysis.

Share one thing you have learned, big or small, doing your work over the past year?

Working on yourself is just as or more important than work.

Who inspires you?

My girlfriend, my partner, and my best friend. She is all rolled into one. Su forma de ser es mi inspiración.

What do you do to relax, de-stress or recharge your batteries?

I like to take time every morning to stretch or meditate for thirty minutes. Depending on how I am feeling, I like to destress by practicing yoga or playing fútbol.

Why have you chosen to do this kind of work?

It started with a summer internship with a local shelter. Once I realized the scope and importance of the work it became a mission.

What is your favorite food?

As someone who cooks and watches cooking videos every day, I can not choose one favorite dish. Mexican food is my nourishment and sometimes guilty pleasure. However, I will say that on most days I am also eating some type of oriental cuisine.

What is your favorite book?

The Fourth Turning: An American Prophecy by Neil Howe and William Strauss
